Troubleshooting: MS Teams

Can’t dial into into Teams conference

Try the following if you're having audio conferencing problems:

  1. Ask the caller or meeting organizer to call your PSTN (telephone line) or mobile number.
  2. Join the call or meeting from the desktop or mobile clients, using VoIP.
  3. If you still need support, submit a ticket to IT with this information: the exact time of call, conference bridge number dialed, caller phone network, and caller phone number.

Teams sign-in loop (browser)

If you are using Teams from your browser and are repeatedly asked for credentials when signing in, try the following, depending on your browser, then try to sign in again:

Google Chrome (for Windows):

  1. Open Internet Options through Windows Control Panel.
  2. Select Security > Trusted Sites > Sites.
  3. Add the following sites:
    • [*.]microsoft.com
    • [*.]microsoftonline.com
    • [*.]teams.skype.com
    • [*.]teams.microsoft.com
    • [*.]sfbassets.com
    • [*.]skypeforbusiness.com

Microsoft Edge:

  1. In Microsoft Edge, navigate to Settings > Site permissions > Cookies and site data.
  2. Turn on "Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended)", and ensure "Block third-party cookies" is switched off.
  3. In the same window under Allow, add the following sites:
    • [*.]microsoft.com
    • [*.]microsoftonline.com
    • [*.]teams.skype.com
    • [*.]teams.microsoft.com
    • [*.]sfbassets.com
    • [*.]skypeforbusiness.com

Teams sign-in loop (desktop application)

If Teams repeatedly asks for credentials when signing in, try the following:

  1. (For Windows) Check your email account settings:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts. Check to see if there are multiple accounts listed under the same email address (e.g. a Work and Personal account).
    • If there are, remove the extra accounts by clicking Manage > Delete account from this device. Click Delete and Done to confirm.
  2. Ensure you are signed out and close Teams. Then clear the Teams cache by deleting the contents of the Teams cache folder. In Windows, the folder path might look like: "Microsoft\teams\application cache\cache".

Teams audio not working

If you are experiencing audio issues, try the following:

  1. Ensure your internet connection is working.
  2. Check Teams for updates. In the app, click your profile picture then "Check for updates".
  3. Close and restart your Teams application. If the issue persists, restart your computer.
  4. Try using a different speaker or set of headphones.

Teams add-in missing from Outlook

If you are missing the Teams add-in in Outlook, try the following.

  1. Ensure private meetings are enabled: in the Microsoft Teams admin center, go to Meetings > Meeting Policies. Under the General section, enable "Allow scheduling private meetings". Relaunch Outlook.
  2. Try disabling your firewall. In Windows, go to Settings > Update and Security. Select Windows Security on the left. Click Firewall and Network Protection > Active Network. Toggle the switch to disable the firewall.
  3. Enable the add-in in Outlook: in Outlook, choose File > Options. Select the Add-ins tab in the Options dialog box. Ensure "Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office" is listed in the Active Application Add-ins list.
