Troubleshooting: Email Issues with Gmail Android App
If your Gmail app isn’t syncing properly, you might experience these symptoms:
- Can't send mail, or mail is stuck in send
- Not getting new mail
- Can't open or read mail
- "Account not synced" error
- Gmail app is very slow
- Not getting notifications
- Not getting mail from Yahoo, Outlook, or other non-Gmail account
Try these troubleshooting steps—after you try each one, check to see if the problem is fixed.
- Update your Gmail app to get the latest fixes.
- Restart your device.
- Check these settings:
- Open a website to confirm that you're online.
- Turn off airplane mode.
- Check Gmail sync settings and confirm "Sync Gmail" is enabled.
- Check your phone or tablet settings and confirm that "Automatically sync data" is enabled.
- Clear storage (syncing won't work if your device is low on space). To clear space on your device: Uninstall apps you don't use, delete files or move files to your computer, and remove any downloaded Google Play music, books, movies, or TV shows.
- Check your password: On your computer, open Gmail; if you can't sign and you get a login error, sync won't work on the Gmail app. Make sure you enter your username and password correctly. If you use 2-Step Verification, sign in using an app password instead of your regular password.
- Clear your Gmail information—beware that this could erase message drafts, your signature, ringtone, and other settings. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > App info. TapGmail > Storage > Clear data > Ok.
- Restart your device.
