Troubleshooting: Email Issues on iOS Devices
Email Stopped Working on My iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch
After you try each step, check to see if the problem is fixed.
- If you recently deleted or changed your email account settings, make sure that you're using the correct login details. Be aware that previously downloaded emails might have been deleted from your device, as part of that change.
- Open a web browser to confirm that your device and Internet are functioning as expected.
- Navigate to your email service provider's webpage to check if there is outage.
- Send any emails that might be stuck in the email Outbox.
- Confirm that Fetch settings are set properly: Go to Settings, tap Passwords & Accounts > Fetch New Data, and select Automatically, Manually, or schedule how often Mail should fetch data. (For iOS 11 and later, Automatically is set by default—your device will fetch new data in the background only when your device is charging and connected to Wi-Fi).
- Confirm that your Notification settings are correct for the Mail app: Go to Settings, tap Notifications > Mail > your email account, then adjust your Alerts, Sounds, and Badges.
- Remove your email account and set it up again: On your computer, confirm that your email message display, as these will be the backup emails. If the emails display as expected, continue with this step. On your device: Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts, tap the email account that you want to remove > Delete Account, then Add the email account again.
