FAQ: Symantec VIP Access MFA [Needs Input]
What is it?
The Symantec Validation and ID Protection (VIP) Service is a multi-factor authentication (MFA) product that uses biometrics and smartphones to supplement username and password logins for VPN, Smartphones, and PCs.
How do I reinstall?
If you are re-installing Symantec VIP onto a new computer after a refresh, AND if you have Symantec VIP installed on your previous computer, follow <these instructions>.
How can I reach Okta from an external network?
- Log into Okta. A prompt displays if MFA is required.
- Select your preferred MFA option from the drop down menu on the icon.
- Launch the Okta verify app on your mobile device to obtain the code. A text is sent to the mobile number that you have listed.
- Launch the Symantec VIP Access app on your PC to get the code.
Verify via Okta Verify:
- Select Okta Verify (you can click Send Push to send a push message to the Okta Verify app).Or, you can click Enter Code to manually input the verification code.
- Launch the Okta Verify app on the registered device. A six digit code displays.
- Enter the code where indicated and click Verify.
Verify via SMS Authentication:
- Select SMS Authentication.
- Click Send Code. A SMS is delivered to your registered device with a six digit code.
- Enter the code into the blank text field and click Verify.
Verify via Symantec VIP:
- Select Symantec VIP.
- Launch Symantec VIP on the registered device.
- Enter the security code from the Symantec VIP app into the Security code screen in Okta and click Verify.
- (If you encounter any issues) Request support from IT.
What is MFA with Symantec VIP, Okta Verify, or SMS Text?
When accessing Okta from a non-company network, or when editing your Okta profile, you will be prompted to use your multi-factor authentication (MFA) for secondary security. The MFA authentication method is setup during the first login to Okta, when you are given up to three setup options.
How do I install VIP Access Client?
- Launch the installer, click Run > Next.
- Accept the terms and click Next.
- Select the file destination and click Next > Install.
- When complete, click Finish.
